Hey Julian, Tell us a bit about yourself.

Julian Z.

Thanks, appreciate it. I’m Julian, 18 years old, almost 19. I’m currently living in Amsterdam. Still with my parents, but we live sort of seperately. Do my own groceries, wash my own clothes, cook my own food etc. Gonna be studying psychology next year. I came in touch with digital art with the whole signature scene, as most people did. I visited some dutch forums where people had these cool graphic signatures, I wanted to make them too, so I kind of grew into it. When I was younger i was always drawing stuff, which helped me choose this path.

Cosmosys

When and how did you first become interested in Art?

Julian Z.

Good question, never gave that much tought. I aim to be the psychologist with the most appealing business card in Holland. I’ll probably be aiming more of my attention towards psychology though. I’ve always seen design more as a hobby.

Cosmosys

What are your influences in general?

Julian Z.

Monet, it was my favourite artist when I was a kid, and he still is. I usually don’t get inspired when looking at other people’s pieces, it’s mostly contra-productive. But looking at his work makes me remember what it is to appreciate art, that’s motivating.

Cosmosys

Can you tell us a bit about your workflow?

Julian Z.

Most pieces take a few days. I don’t really start alot of pieces, only when I really get a good idea. When I’m connected enough with an idea, I’m motivated to finish it. The first day I’m working on stuff I usually do most of the piece. It’s making the general outline of the whole thing, and getting all your ideas on the canvas before they slip away. Then I’ll usually spend 2-6 days defining the whole piece, mostly making already existing patterns, shapes and ideas more detailed. I’ve had some projects that took me a few weeks, but that was because I was less experienced. When you get in the mood, you can flow through the process of making something. Though, if you add the time thinking about pieces, it’s mostly a week per piece in general I guess.

Cosmosys

What do you like about Cosmosys and what is your favorite piece of the pack?

Julian Z.

What I like is that I’ve been in cosmosys for a while now, and you know what most people’s comfort zones are. It’s dope to see how they react to the theme and see them expand themselves further. The theme is pretty straightforward, you could make very direct pieces that scream “HAVOC” at you, but I like the fact that most artists chose to present it in a more subtle way. My favourite submission of this pack… I’d say Sythest’s piece. It’s surprising how many artists have tried to define havoc by showing calmth to further dramatize any havoc. His piece is a pretty good example and hell it’s just marvelous to look at.

Cosmosys

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Julian Z.

An amical handshake, two people walking off in the distance, smooth jazz plays in the background as the first drops of rain fall, camera moving upwards, screen fading black.
